Chumie is an AI companion app made by Bestie Technologies ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Chumie app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email us at support@chumie.chat.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, the name or username you choose, and your password (stored in encrypted form by our account provider).
- Your companion settings: your companion's name, look, voice, personality and language.
- Messages and media you send: the texts, photos, files and voice messages you send to Chumie, so it can reply.
- Calls: your voice during voice calls, and your voice and camera during video calls, so the call can work in real time.
- Memories and follow-ups: details Chumie saves about you (like your interests or an upcoming event) so it can remember them and check in later. You can see and remove these in the app.
- Goals, plans and reminders: the goals and reminders you set, and your check-in preferences.
- Usage and subscription information: how many messages and call minutes you've used, your plan, and your subscription status from Google Play. We don't receive your card details; Google handles payment.
- Device information: a notification token so we can send reminders and check-ins, plus basic technical data needed to run and fix the app.
What stays on your phone
Your journal is stored on your phone. Chumie only reads a journal entry when you tap Reflect on it. Your chat history and companion picture are also kept on your phone.
How we use your information
- To run Chumie: reply to your messages, run calls, remember what matters to you, and send reminders and check-ins.
- To personalize Chumie to you.
- To manage your account and your subscription.
- To keep Chumie safe, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To answer you when you contact support.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads in Chumie.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Chumie, and only what they need to do their job:
- OpenAI to create Chumie's replies, voice and call conversations.
- LiveKit to run voice and video calls.
- LemonSlice to animate your companion's face on video calls.
- Supabase to store accounts and app data.
- Render to host our servers.
- Google Play to handle subscriptions and payments.
- Expo to deliver notifications.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account information and the data stored on our servers. Information on your phone is removed when you delete your account or uninstall the app.
Your choices and rights
- See and remove memories: open Memory in the app.
- Turn off reminders: change your check-in settings in the app or your phone's notification settings.
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings and tap Delete my account, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
- Ask for a copy or correction: email support@chumie.chat. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have extra rights, and we'll honor them.
Age requirement
Chumie is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Chumie, email us and we'll delete the account.
Security
We use encrypted connections and trusted providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your phone locked.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
